Traveling with children can be exciting, enlightening -- and exasperating. Most kids have an innate and nearly boundless sense of curiosity, which family travel can spark and nurture. But few children are "born" travelers, and car travel can bring out the worst in them.

The following tips can help you keep them content and comfortable while you're on the go. Most involve at least one of the three "p’s": planning, preparation, and packing. Should you fail to foresee every eventuality, however, and mutiny threatens en route, resort to the four "p’s" safety nets: picnics, parks, playgrounds, and pillows.
