As we were driving towards Alagna, one of the three main points of entry into the Monte Rosa skiing area, the change in landscape came quite sudden. In the plains northwest of Milan, spring had already begun, flowers had started to appear, and only the white cover on the distant tops of the Alps reminded one of the vicinity of snow. But as we drove into the valley of the Sesia river, we quite soon...

For some reason, Sitara mosque seemed difficult to find, and I was cruising the streets in the neighbourhood for some time before I finally realized I had to look in a side street. Also, I realized I did not have to look for a huge building with tall, slender minarets. Sitara mosque is not big, and it does not have minarest. Still, it is considered one of the foremost mosques of the capital city. ...

Already for years it has been my wish yo see the Snow Festival in Hokkaido. In 1995, I naievely assumed that the huge snow statues and buildings would remain visible until they melted, but this seemed not to be the case when I arrived 2 days after the closure. As soon as I found out the dates of the festival in 1999, I managed to get to Japan in the right time. And I was certainly not disappointed...

In fact, they were so successful that the Spanish intervened and eventually put an end to their mission. What remains...

Undoubtedly one of the most romantic capitals in the world, Paris certainly appeals to visitors from every corner of our planet. A city symbolized by Eiffel Tower or Arc de Triomphe, by Notre Dame or Sacré Coeur, but also co-capital of fashion. Definitely the centre of France, the beginning and end of most train lines, nearly anyone visiting...

It was a cold, bright November day, and I decided it was perfect for doing the Riverwalk. The weather was perfect: even though the temperature was a little below freezing, there was no wind and the sun was shining in abundance. I started out by walking to the Link Bridge, which is closest to Lake Michigan. Logically, you would think...

The sun was already going down when I rushed out of the lodge I was staying in. I had taken more than expected to drive from Maseru to Semonkong, picking up passengers on the way, negotiating the unsealed road that was in a particularly bad condition. Now, I was in a hurry - the Maletsunyane Falls were calling! I quickly walked up the...

When I got out of the car at the entrance of Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve to get a ticket, I noticed a very strong wind. The weather was good, a friendly sun was trying to warm up the earth, even though it was winter here in the southern hemisphere. As I was driving towards the southern tip of this peninsula, clouds were sailing in across...
