Camping in Acadia NP

There are two park campgrounds on Mount Desert Island and a much smaller campground on Isle au Haut. In summer, both Blackwoods and Seawall have rest rooms with cold running water but no showers. Both campgrounds can accommodate RVs up to 35 feet long. Each has a dump station but no utility hookups.

Nature Trails and Short Hikes

Jordan Pond Nature Trail. There are two self-guided nature trails in the park. The Jordan Pond Nature Trail begins and ends near the Jordan Pond House, making a smooth 1-mile loop along the shore and through nearby fields and wooded areas. Interpretive pamphlets provide information on natural and park history at selected points along the loop, which takes about 45 minutes to complete.

Best in a Day Itinerary

 Stop first at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center to see a short orientation video and obtain maps and brochures about the park. Make sure to pick up a map of the carriage roads, which should not be missed. Acadia National Park

 Acadia is lovely during any of New England's distinctly different seasons. Although summer is by far the most popular, it's by no means the only time to enjoy the park. From mid-May to late fall, Bar Harbor is swarming with tourists; expect higher lodging prices. On the other hand, summer is the best time to take advantage of shopping, dining out, and touring on Mount Desert Island; the town of Bar Harbor virtually shuts down in winter.
